BRINGING MINDFULNESS TO THE RECOVERY PROCESS
My goal for this project is to design an object for individuals managing an addiction that uses mindfulness to help individuals remain abstinent over time.
IDEATION
In my conversations with individuals from Partnership to End Addiction and my research on addiction management, I learned that mindfulness and a strong support system are key factors in the recovery process. Inspired by meditation stones and sobriety chips, I designed a customized stamp for individuals managing addiction as a reminder of why they are abstaining and how far they have come in their recovery journeys.
FINAL DESIGN
The MileStone Stamp Set is a set of objects that serves as a tool toward recovery. Each set comes with a set of four milestones, one customized stamp, one stamp holder, one stamp cover, one case to hold the milestone pieces, and one case to hold the assembled MileStone Stamp.
The milestones allow an individual to track the number of days they remain abstinent. The level of the milestone directly correlates to the number of dials, which provides different capacities for tracked days of abstinence. Onyx tracks days 1-9, Bronze tracks days 10-99, Silver tracks days 100-999 and Gold tracks days 1000-9999.
There is a case designed to hold the stamp to keep it assembled and intact for travel and a case to hold the milestones that are not currently in use. The form of the cases, like the objects they hold, resemble stones.
USER JOURNEY
While the goal is to increase abstinence, the design is inherently self-directed and allows for the opportunity to track days as the individual sees fit. The following user journeys demonstrate how an individual may interact with and use the MileStone Stamp Set.
